Corporal Joseph Etchells of 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers was killed as a result of an explosion that happened whilst on a foot patrol near Sangin, northern Helmand province., Afghanistan.
Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Calder, Commanding Officer, 2nd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers said:
"Corporal Etchells was a remarkable young man. He showed a gift for soldiering that touched all who worked with him. His enthusiasm, determination, loyalty and professionalism would have seen him progress with ease through the ranks. Above all he will be remembered for the friendships that he easily made; at home, in barracks or facing daily adversity in Afghanistan.
"The Battalion; his friends mourn his loss. However our loss is nothing compared to the loss sustained by his fiancée, and his family. Our prayers are now for them, Julie and their daughter."
I didnt know you very long Joey but I liked you as soon as you walked through my door to buy one of my puppies. You had a great sense of humour, you spoke proudly about your army career and I could also see the love and friendship that you and Ben shared. I came to your funeral and my heart broke for your parents, siblings and Julie but also Sue, Ben, Amy and the rest of your 'extended family'. You are so loved and missed Joey. Sleep tight, love Karen, Andy & Co, and a big slobbery kiss from Spirit, Mia and Alaska xxx
Goodbye Joey,
I'm gonna miss you so much, I am so proud of you.
I too will do you proud lad, You came with me to get my GCSE results, But you was on tour for my AS levels, So Ben came with me, I know that this time to, you will be with me, but not in the way any of us could of dreamed.
Everyone you came into contact with, was touched by your wit and your charm, No matter what the occasion you could bring a smile to someones face. Its hard to believe i will never see you and Ben larking around, like the chuckle brothers except uncensored :P.
We could here you coming a mile away in your car, with the music so loud so no-one could hear your singing haha. You was like a whirlwind spinning fun and laughter, and i dont think i have a single bad memory of you. Even when you pinned me to the floor, licking my face and filmed it. :/ ^^ You were my second brother, every christmas or birthday card you got me had sister on, that made me so proud to be your 'other sister'.
God has gained a real cheeky angel, that we will all miss very very much.
I miss you and I love you Joseph.
Until we meet again, See ya hun.

"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," He said.
"For you to love the while he lives and mourn when he is dead,
"It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three,
"But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
"He'll bring his charms to gladden you, but should his stay be brief,
"You'll have his lovely memories, as solace for your grief,
"I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
"But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
"I've looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true,
"And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes I have selected you.
"Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
"Nor hate me when I come to call to take him back again?
I fancied that I heard them say: "Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
"For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness; we'll love him while we may,
And for happiness we've known forever grateful stay.
"But should the angels call for him much sooner than we'd planned,
"We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand."
